Public policy and substantial reforms in the Kurdistan region and Iraq have shown to be incredibly resilient. Despite motivated assistance from the international community aiding the KRG and Iraqi government to improve governance and policymaking.
While Pasewan believes that an incremental approach will yield the highest results, conducting truthful research is paramount to get to those results.
Pasewan knows that it begins and ends with comprehensive investigation. Local and insightful data from the people will aid the incremental policies and new reforms rolling out. Both to aid goals of governance, but also to introduce the practise of incorporating the people into the equation of public policy: to integrate evidence-based policymaking. Overall, helping the Kurdistan region and Iraq propel the people to become tomorrow’s leaders and spur on positive change.
Without proper due diligence and information flows aiding policy-making; the policies will be created in a vacuum and result in being non-functional with unintended consequences. Furthermore, the lack of truthful data will amplify already existing complications of corruption and hidden agendas between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The Iraqi government after 2003 and the Kurdistan Regional Government have created a repeating “winners and losers” conundrum. Resulting in the resilience against structural changes within policymaking. That with no insight into what is being policed, opportunistic decisions are made to benefit only a certain stratum of people, rather than the larger populous.
